We have been teaching
Jessy for 3 weeks. Last Friday we talked about baptism, he knew he wanted it
but needed to figure out when and how to talk to his parents, I said "How
long do you need? We won't bring it up until then, but I need to know when I
can start bugging you about it." He said to give him a week. I was surprised
how patently I waited!
Here's the trick
though, you don’t wait, you DO. Sister Hiatt and I fasted Sunday (which feel a
lot longer when you’re going to 7 hours of church; 2 wards and ward council).
When we had dinners at member houses we invited them to pray for Jessy.
Wednesday morning we read a text from Jessy he sent at 1 AM the night
before, it read, "I know the book of mormon is true. I know the church of jesus
chirst of latter day saints is true"
:) Words can’t
describe how we felt!!! ECSTATIC! JOYFUL HAPPY, eh, those words aren’t strong
enough. Still I kept my bugging question,"when will you get baptized"
from slipping out of my mouth. That week we taught word of wisdom; "Will
you follow the word of wisdom?" "Yes"
The law of chastity;
'will you live the law of chastity?" "Yes."
Tithing
"yes." fasting "yes"
Our lesson on Friday
came. Turns out HE had been fasting for forgiveness for his sins. He told us
about an hour before a though came to his mind that he would ask his parents on
his birthday which was the following day. :) As we read and studied scriptures
together on of the verse read aloud was god speaking to him. Alma 5:46. It
talked about how he had fasted to know. It was very humbling to witness.
Anyway, he talked to
his parents, they are ok with it :) but they want him to wait a month just so
he is sure. We can do that! It’s so great to see the change that has come on
his spirit. He smiles more and he is so faithful.
The church is true. Try
it out and ask.
