Well what’s
new, I was sick this week (as was my companion) we got to work a few of the
days, but stayed in a lot. Feeling better now.
One thing I’ve always
stressed with my companions is to foster an environment that supports one
another's spiritual promptings. After dinner yesterday, I wasn’t feeling very
well and we were going to go home, but sis draney said she was sorry , but
really felt like we should go see brother Allen. I said, than that's what we
are going to do. as we drove to his house we missed the turn, so I turned into
another neighborhood looking for a cul-de-sac . we turned up a street and I saw
a man smoking next to his truck. I felt like we needed to talk to him. I kept
driving knowing we’d turnaround and I could talk to him on the way back.
"naw" I thought. that's just creepy. do I park and get out of the car
an talk to him. I asked sis draney to hand me a mormon.org card.
we pulled up to him
and I rolled down the window
"hey, we got
something for you"
"yeah?"
"mormon.org card,
we are missionaries"
"oh yeah, my
parents are Mormon, they live right here," he pointed to the house
We got to talking. he
said how he lived in Utah for a year in logan . right next to the temple. we
said, "do you like the temple?"
"well I’ve never been inside."
" you can, though, one day."
"well I’ve never been inside."
" you can, though, one day."
"that's funny, I
was just talking to my mom about that the other day, I said, yeah maybe I’ll
get married in the temple.."
he dropped his
cigarette and stomped in out.
we chatted he said
that he graduated from seminary, but once he turned 18 he went and did his own
thing,
" you know, I went to try and find myself."
" you know, I went to try and find myself."
"did you find
yourself?" I asked
" No, I
think I got more lost,"
" and we're here
to bring you back."
I was shocked at how
bold I was. but I knew god wanted us to talk to him, and everything just flowed
naturally. His mother is in our ward. She plays the organ. I just kept thinking
how this little conversation is no doubt an answer to a mother’s prayer.
William is this man’s name, and we are going to go back and teach him. He
mentioned how he doesn't even know where his book of mormon is so we gave him
one. He is a very nice man. I am so glad my companion felt the spirit and was
bold enough to tell us to go see someone even if I was sick, so we could run
into William. I was so grateful that I followed the prompting and rolled down
the window. We asked him what his favorite scripture story was, he said John
the Baptist, and so we shared John 3:30 with him. we talked about how
we must decrease to Christ can increase. When we humble our self and decrease
our natural desire then we let Christ’s influence increase in our lives. He
understood it quite well.
We saw Sara and her
granddaughter Charlotte again. We have a lesson with them on Tuesday.
we are trying to get
the 8 year old granddaughter to activity days which is this Wednesday. We will
also invite them to church.
We finally met an
investigator named Allison. We haven't tried her because we've been visiting
other people and sick, but the first time we try her, she was there, just goes
to show how willing god to work with us, we just have to be willing as well.
Jessie (the elderly
lady in the care center) can't come to church. he doctors won't allow it. she
wants to be baptized. we will keep praying, but are not sure what to do there.
It will all workout.
We have an
investigator named Daniel that went to the first ward yesterday, he told the
elders he wants to get baptized. we are trying to get a hold of him (he lives
with brother Allen) so that is exciting!
I can write about all
these different people I meet, and I am only one missionary in one mission in
one part of the world. I am in awe at HOW WELL GOD AND CHRIST KNOW us. Although
there are MANY of us, we are all the one. He cares about us, died for us, and
wants us to come back to him.
2 Nephi 9:21
"And he cometh
into the world that he save all men if they will harken unto his voice; for
behold, he suffereth the pains of all men, yea, the pains of every living thing
creature who belongs to the family of Adam." the next two verses talk
about how we can harken to him and what will happen when we do. We will be
resurrected and stand before god to be judged according to our hearts and
works, "and he commandeth all men that they must repent, and be baptized
in his name, having perfect faith in the Holy one of Israel, or they cannot be
saved in the kingdom of god."
Christ's way is the
best way. Try it and find the peace and joy that he has to offer.
Merry Christmas,
Sister Kaitlin Snow
