On
Thursday we went to a young woman activity. Sister Mason decorated cakes for a
living before the mission and she was showing the young women how to frost
cupcakes. I felt QUITE out of place. ha. Luckily a member named Mikayla brought
a nonmember friend with her. I started telling a few of the girl’s mission
stories and chatted with her friend Julia. she is 17 and very personable,
confident and sweet. I asked her what she knew about the church and she was
very open. She explained that she had been in a car crash 6 months ago and has
nightmare every night, "Last night mikayla read a story out of the book of
Mormon and I’d been having a bad day, and all of a sudden I felt peaceful. and
last night, was the first night in 6 months I haven't had nightmares," she
said while smiling. Her friends eyes lit up, "you didn't tell me
that!" It is great to see everyone benefit from missionary experiences.
not only is this building Julia's faith, but the member mikaylas, and even
mine. we have been out of our area on exchanges and not been able to work here
as much. God has seen our work and desires and blessed us with missionary
opportunities and finding new people to teach!
We had a member of the
ward pass away. it was quite a shock to everyone. He had just been at a lesson
with us visiting a less active a few days before. He was bearing his testimony
and encouraging the man to make it a goal to go to the temple. I guess he had a
long streek of inactivity in his past, though it is sad to see him go, it is comforting
and wonderful to know that he was on the right path as he left this
world.
Luz and Leo passed
their baptismal interview and will be baptized monday july 28th. we have really
emphasized the temple as a continual goal and aim and they are excited to be
able to go there in a year. we taught about temple work and leo's lights lit up
when he was told we could be baptized for our deceased family members,
"you mean...I could do that for my dad?"
the church is true.
god loves us. let's do our best and show our love for him by keeping his
commandments so he has more excuses to bless us!
