Our zone (a group of
30 missionaries) has a goal to set members with a date to have someone for
us to teach. Saturday I decided if I was going to ask members to do that then I
was going to do it too. I tell and testify to them that as we exercise faith
god will bless us, and I know he would do the same for us. So I set the date
for Tuesday and told sis guthrie, she agreed to do it too. as we act righteously
we can be assured that the lord will trust us with opportunities to serve him
and help his children. After a disappointing encounter with a family we were
trying to talk to sis guthrie got the impression to visit Kim a less active we
had met this past week. She was home but didn’t answer; we crossed the street
to go back to our car. There was a man far away in an apt complex parking lot. I
decided we should talk to him. his name was Jonathan and he quickly invited us
over and we sat at his porch. He talked about how he just got out of jail and
has been putting Christ into his life. he had studied with LDS missionaries
before, but had some misconceptions. we were able to clear them up and he ended
up being the answer to our prayers. the cool thing was he said he had slept
through his church that day and felt bad, he was taking back the trash and then
we came up to him wanting to talk about god, it was an answer to his prayer
too! It’s amazing how we can be instruments in His hands
In Sunday school the
teacher asked "why do we have the priesthood. couldn't Christ just come
down and baptize all of us?" one woman said it’s because he couldn't do it
all, "are you limiting god? Surely he could do it if he willed it." The
class was stumped, then David (the recent convert) raise his hand and said,
"because he wants to give us the privilege to help him." that was one
of those rewarding moments as a missionary to witness how fully this man has
embraced and grasped the gospel.
George Stevens has a
baptismal date (June 7). He sees the importance of keeping the word of
wisdom and he appreciates us calling him to check up on how he is doing. He
sees having a soft heart as being weak and naive, he wants to serve god, but he
surrounds himself with people who are bad influences that he tries to help. He
knows the book of Mormon is true and has felt it. He feels nothing toward
joesph smith and what’s to feel it is right in his head and heart. We explained
that we grow slowly in wisdom and that understanding often comes after the
trial of faith.
“Knowledge and
understanding come at the price of patience. Often the deep valleys of our
present will only be understood by looking back on them from the mountains of
our future experiences."- Pres Uchtdorf
Waldo came to
church and loves meeting with us. we have brought a lot of members to his
lessons and so he has a lot of fellowship. Although he seemed a bit stressed
after church, he could just have had one of those days, but we are
brainstorming and praying about ways we can help him.
We met a former
investigator named Dennis in a trailer park we've never been too. I’ve been
trying to go places we haven’t been because you get into the habit of going the
same places and limiting yourself to the same people. Dennis was very nice,
welcomed us saying, "hello sisters!" not even all the members do
that, and he had us sit on patio chairs and we talked about religion. He
doesn't feel good about being baptized twice and he said he doesn’t believe in
the three kingdoms. He sincerely asked some questions about why life is hard
and there is pain, we read scriptures about opposition and center the lesson on
Christ and the father’s plan of salvation. we showed him scriptures in the
bible that highlighted the plan of salvation and the 3 kingdoms. He recognized
the apostasy and loss of all truth and we were able then to explain the need
for a restoration of Christ’s teachings and how it came about. he still had his
book of Mormon and seemed renewed in his desire to read it. we tried to set a
return appointment, but he said he would call us. We will probably stop by his
house this week if we don’t hear from him.
This is from a
conference talk entitled "our path of duty"
"It is as
important to be guided by the holy spirit while praying, as it is to be
enlightened by that same spirit while receiving an answer to prayer."
how true that is. It
was through the spirit I was guided to know what to pray for and to ask god to
help us achieve this goal of finding someone by Tuesday. prayer is more
powerful than we realize. are you ASKING god the right questions? are you
showing him you are willing to receive blessings? not temporal or transient
blessings, but blessings that come from developing the attribute of Christ.
Faith, patience, humility, virtue, diligence, hope, charity, or knowledge? I
invite you all to pick one of these and prayerfully set a goal with your father
in heaven to increase and strengthen them within you. I know that as I set my
goal it helped me increase my faith.
Have a wonderful week,
and review conference!
Love,
Sister Kait Snow
