Luz
and Leo got baptized Monday. It was the most unique baptism I’ve ever been too.
we taught them in the 5th ward, but they were being baptized in the 2nd ward.
Many of the ward members of both wards came out to support 2 people the barely
or DIDN'T know at all. there was so much unity and Christ-like love. just
welcoming and joyous celebrating. The Mallares are philippino and had a lot of nonmember
family show up. A member cousin from our ward gave a great talk on the holy
ghost. she had a beautifully wrapped present and she spoke of how the spirit is
a gift and how it can help us in our life. inside the gift there was a compass,
flashlight and comforter that she all related to the holy ghost. We were in the
chapel because there were so many people and 20 + people were standing in the
back of the Sunday school room when they were baptized.
after Leo (the dad)
was baptized he just stood there and cried, then hugged his cousin-in-law who
baptized him. Before Luz went under the water she resolutely said,
"AMEN" to the prayer before anyone else could. We talked to a lot of
their family after the baptism and had some great missionary opportunities. it
was also very convenient that we knew WHO were members and Who were non
members, there were 6 sister missionaries there and we divided and conquered
and talked to all the Philippino.
We went to try to see
Tiffany (another investigator) as we walked up we saw her sitting on her porch
talking on the phone. she told her friend she had to go because, "my
Mormon sisters are here." She read the chapter we left with her and liked
it. hopefully she will be there for her return appointment. she has a 20 year
old son, and she talked to him about what she read in the book of Mormon. she
said he seemed interested, so we gave her another copy to give to him.
our investigator donna
has been having a lot of health problems and cannot meet for the next two
weeks. she was in a car accident over a year ago and has had complication after
complication. if you could keep her in your prayers that would be wonderful
the ward is very
supportive of missionary work and we've had a rm volunteer to come out with us.
Mike, a less active, brought his friend to church this Sunday. The friends name
is Cameron. He had never been before said he liked it and will be present for
the next lesson we have with mike, so we hope to start teaching Cameron too.
On a different note:
Sister Mason threw up carrots in the bushes of some lady we were talking to.
also we are going to the presidential library today. I'm excited.
On Sunday we sang
master the tempest is raging, it was amazing and filled my body with the
spirit, the councilor had been talking about this hymn and how everything can
be raging around us but through the gospel we can find inner peace and "be
still", it was very similar to the thoughts I had during the passing of
the sacrament. and my "theme" for this upcoming transfer is "be
still and know that I am god." that doesn't mean slack off and let him do
the work, it means to be constant, be calm, be peaceful and know that we in the
lords hand. he created the ocean and can calm it with one word from his mouth.
he has the ability to calm us too. it is a marvelous thing. because we already
knows the answer to the question, "master carest thou not that we
perish?" yes he cares, he can help us to feel his calming hand. He answers
his apostles, "Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no
faith?" truly is by HIS power that we are saved. There is no need to
fear. As the bible says perfect love casteth out all fear. is anyone has
perfect love it is god. look to him and let fear flee, and see the salvation of
your soul!
Love,
