Thanksgiving a week early!

Last Thursday was my favorite dinner on the mission!

Not so much as because of what we ate (though it was yummy) but the wonderful opportunity we had to teach the friend of a woman in our ward. sister Leask has a friend, named Sally, living with them. They didn’t want to push religion on Sally, but they also want to share the gospel with her. The member, Sister Leask, was emailing her son on a mission about her predicament. He replied, "Just put her in the same room as the sister missionaries and they will do the rest. they are set apart, and will know what to do."

So Sue Leask signed up for dinner and we went over there on Thursday. We visited with sis leask, her mom, Roberta, and Sally. After dinner we shared a message. It is a story from the ensign (I think Septembers) called, "Rescued by the Gospel." A man talks about his failed attempt of suicide and how he found the church. It changed his life and he truly felt rescued. I read the whole article, and though I was looking down, I could feel everyone intently listening.

after I finished sister Mapa started talking about it and I noticed a tv or radio was on in the other room. the sound was REALLY distracting. "Was that on as I was reading?" I thought, because I totally didn’t hear it. then after a few more minutes and a few questions to the members and sally I testified to them that they are daughters of god. that Christ will help them and can help them, because he was helped me. After I finished I again noticed the radio sounds. And realized I had blocked in out so intently I had once again not heard any traces of the sound it was putting out.

The spirit is powerful and can over power and override distractions. It was a great lesson and we asked Sally if she would be willing to learn more about the church by meeting with us. she said yes!

We had Zone conference which was very uplifting and good. we had one workshop where we had to teach the restoration without using words that were commonly used that may not be understandable by others. Example: prophets, disciples, atonement, apostasy, restoration. It was pretty cool. It wasn't restricting but  helped us better check the understanding of those we were teaching.

Roman came to church again!!! (He's the older man we met at the Library.
The ward members are reaching out to him. there is one brother who didn’t serve a mission who lives across the street from roman. We called him and told him roman's address and asked if he would go over and introduce himself and befriend him. He was more than willing and followed up after. It was great. It goes to show that people can change and not to judge those who didn’t go on a mission etc. he wander at the time in his life, but now he's married in the temple and has a cute little family and god is still giving him opportunities to be a missionary and he is taking them!

On a more awkward note. I didn't realize that Jewish people give presents for Hanukkah. So I saw someone with wrapping paper and I said, "oh wrapping Christmas presents?" nope. no they we're not. she was not happy with me. ha. there's a lot of little experiences you just laugh off on your mission.

The elders quorum president told us he has a family for us to teach! that is exciting :) so he will arrange for us to meet them at his house for dinner or something.

Our hearts follow our thoughts so always think of uplifting things. I love listening to hymns. It is amazing  how powerful an influence for good can truly is.

Here is my favorite scripture for the week

Omni 1:26
"And now my beloved brethren, I would that ye should come unto Christ, the Holy one of Israel, and partake of his salvation and the power of his redemption. Yea, come unto him, and offer you whole souls as an offering unto him, and continue in fasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved."

Have a wonderful thanksgiving.

I am sooooo thankful for the knowledge I have of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and to share that message with others, particularly this week with the opportunity we had to teach sally. We can track all day long, but the most effective way to find people to teach is to meet people through the members.

Love you all,

Sister Kaitlin Snow
