Conversation with a less active member over the phone,

"That's great that you've been reading the book of mormon, where are you at?"
"I'm at fosters shakes"
"No, I mean the book of mormon,"
"No, It's at my house."
"I mean where are you at IN the book of mormon?"
"On, second Nephi chapter three verse six."

haha.

I have seen more miracles THIS WEEK than I have in any other week in my mission. Our teaching pool has been pretty low (like California drought low) many people who were learning either told sis guthrie and sis dixon they didn't want to learn anymore or we as missionaries had to stop visiting them because they weren't progressing.
So this week we have been searching to FIND people. I must say we have only knocked on 10 or less strangers homes. We have been street contacting. Meaning? we walk around and we talk to everyone we see. We have been showing the Lord, more so than at least I have in the past that I want to get things done!

Thursday we talked to about 15 people. One was a girl at a bus stop we gave a book of mormon to and prayed with, she thanks us for coming by, "Its people like you that remind us that spirituality is important." So was grateful we stopped to talk to her. Seeing the demeanor of a stranger change and seeing them open up and listen to the gospel is my favorite thing. They leave happier than they were when we found them.

This was thursday. Later that evening we were leaving a lesson at an apartment on-get this- brizzolara street. We had a member with us named sister bell. My companion was talking to her, and I saw a woman they walked past. she was braiding her hair. at first I hesitated talking to her. it was late. time to go home and sleep. I deserve a break right? I've been talking to strangers all day. But I opened my mouth.

It was filled.

I simply said, "Hello! Braiding your hair?" I walked closer, "I'd shake your hand but I don’t want you messing it up," Sis guthrie walked over as well as the member. She asked who we were, we explained we were missionaries and she asked what we do, "We go around and talk to people, and teach lessons about jesus christ and his restored gospel."
We testified how she has a loving heavenly father. Her name we found out is Tina. She said, she had heard mormons don't like black people, but that can't be true because of how we were treating her.

Tina said she knew it was no accident we talked to her. Sis bell testified to her that god is aware of her and loves her, she said she feels bad because she was waiting for her friend to go have a drink and she knows she shouldn’t do that. "man, I'm trippin'" she said as tears streamed down her face. "I prayed to god last night for directions and he sends me mormons!" she said in her black lady voice, "I'm trippin!" the member hugged her. We talked to her about her savior and how we learn of him through his prophets and how there is another testament of jesus christ called the book of mormon. She took it thankfully.

It says in preach my gospel that as you share personal experiences with children of god in your first meeting they will recognize you as servants of the lord. I feel so blessed to have tina come into our life. She just moved here from san jose. she said she felt drawn to SLO and now she knows it was to meet us. We had a great lesson with her on Saturday and she has a baptismal date for April 4th! So send prayers up to heaven for tina that she will be prepared to accept and live the word of wisdom.

I received an email from sister mason who took my spot in ventura. Ray, the man we met knocking and gave the resto pamphlet too, is doing great , and danni has a baptismal date!

We have ANOTHER new investigator named Julie. The elders found her at chipotle

Last night as we walked away from taking to two men, another man called out to us, "Hey, can I have one of those books?" "No, no you can't OF COURSE YOU CAN" I thought in my head. we gave it to him and talked briefly about he can pray to know it is the word of god. He was in a hurry we got his contact info and will pass it on to the first ward sisters who will visit mark today!

miracle after miracle. It has been amazing. Why? How? We have been praying for the faith and the strength to have the courage to be bold in proclaiming the gospel. Ask and ye shall receive. President Packer said, " No message appears in scripture more times than, in more ways than, 'Ask and ye shall receive.'"

MATT 7:7

"Ask, and it shall be given you;;seek and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be open unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."

I KNOW this to be true. I experienced the true depth of this promise Sunday. That morning as we knelt to go out of our apartment I prayed that we would be able to have a missionary opportunity at church. This is something I never prayed for before. I didn't know what to expect. but I asked unwavering. no so much with crazy conviction, but more so a factual knowledge. We parked at church at walked through the door.
"Hi sisters," said the bishop. "This is David, "he said pointing to a man in a blue shirt and tie." He would like a copy of the book of mormon and to learn more." we gave him one talked a bit, he prefaced by saying he has free time until MAY when his schedule will change a bit but that he wants to study and learn as much as he can. WOW. He walked into the church building all by himself. It was 5 minutes to sacrament meeting. We briefly described the three meetings, he had no idea, "how this all works" and he stayed for all three hours. The members were great at introducing themselves, and we sat with him and asked a couple to sit on the other side of him during sacrament. throughout the meeting he kept looking through his book of mormon and would turn to the scripture that the speakers referenced. We have a lesson with him tomorrow! I now know that we truly can ask and receive. That god has blessings he is waiting and WANTS to bestow upon us, but are conditional on us humbly asking for them.

After church we saw he had a text message there is a member that wants to meet with us to talk about us teaching his brother! And there was another miracle on Saturday but I will have to write about it next week. I know the most powerful thing we have in our agency and we can choose eternal life or endless misery. I find so much joy and comfort and peace in the gospel of jesus christ and feel privileged to guide people to those same living waters, that run freely for us all. In the name of our savior jesus christ amen.
